A socket is not a page view
Most hosting is sized for requests that arrive, get answered and end. Messaging is the opposite: every participant holds a connection open for as long as they are present, and the server pays for it the entire time. That changes what to buy.
Memory is the ceiling, not cores
Each open connection costs memory whether or not anyone is typing. Concurrency is usually a memory question first and a processor question second.
Steady beats fast
